Carpark Management System
The key challenge in traditional carpark management has been
cash management involving collection, counting, auditing and banking in of
coins and notes. These activities are time-consuming, error prone and costly to
perform.
The automated process of automatic issuing of tickets at the
carpark entry and collection of fees using unmanned payment machines that
accept notes and coins, though popular in many countries, is very expensive to
implement, own and maintain. Auditing and banking in of coins and notes, which
are time-consuming processes, are still required.
In Singapore, with the widespread use of the cashcard to pay
for road tolls, makes sense to automate the backend auditing and physical
collection, counting and banking in of notes and coins.
Cash Card System
AlphaWAVE developed the cashcard payment system in
2001. Its clients include major carpark management companies like Wilson
Parking, Adams Parking, Top Parking, Metro Parking, P-Parking, Elite
Parking and Aims Parking. There are even more direct building owners who
use AlphaWAVE System to manage their own carparks.

Cash Card System
For cashcard carpark management system, the drivers simply
insert their cashcard into our entry kiosk, equipped with a high-speed cashcard
smart reader, a message display, voice recording or sound (optional), help
button and intercom. The entry time is stored in a database together with the
cashcard details that identifies the driver. On exit, the driver inserts the
same cashcard into the exit kiosk. The system will retrieve the entry time and
other information from the database, compute the parking fee and deduct the
correct amount from the driver's cashcard.
At the end of the day, the revenue collection for the carpark
will be sent over to NETS (Network for Electronic Transfers), an e-payment
operator in Singapore owned by three major banks in Singapore - DBS, OCBC and
UOB. NETS performs its verification processes and deposits the money into the
designated bank account of the carpark owner.
Hence, the carpark manager saves all the time and effort
required to perform those tasks that were required previously. This lowers the
cost of operating a carpark for the owner, while the users of the carpark - the
drivers enjoy the convenience of cashless parking. The drivers do not need to
remember to keep the tickets, spend additional time to queue at the payment
station to settle the parking fee.
The Carpark Management Software developed by AlphaWAVE - CALMS
(Car Access Lane Management System) allows carpark managers and owners to not
only generate revenue reports, traffic movement, season parking information,
exceptions reports, but also perform in-depth analysis such as revenue by
different types of vehicles and even audit trail of all operations performed.
The comprehensive software system is protected by a sophisticated security
access control.
Electronic Parking System (Full / Partial / Season Parking)
The EPS (Electronic Parking System) goes
one step further to enhance the driver's convenience with "hands-free"
cashless parking.
On entry to the carpark, the drivers no
longer need to stop the car, wind down the window to insert the cashcard
to register its entry time. A high speed antenna at the entry lane will
read the IU (In-car Unit, available on all Singapore cars), the system
will store the information in the database and lifts up the high speed
barrier.
For Season Parking access control system
used in condominiums, clubs or even schools, the system only allows
registered vehicles to enter. Unregistered vehicles would be required to
be authenticated by the security before access is allowed.
Both Partial EPS and Full EPS are systems
that can deduct fees from the cashcard of the carpark users. The
difference between the two is that for Partial EPS, the driver will
still need to stop the vehicle and insert the cashcard for the fee to be
deducted if a parking fee is required; for Full EPS, the deduction of
the fee is done using the IU in the car, similar to the automatic ERP
(Electronic Road Pricing) toll fee collection. This automatic deduction
of fees cuts down the time required by the driver to clear the exit.
AlphaWAVE has implemented Full EPS for
extremely heavy traffic carparks at shopping centres, industrial parks,
clubs, entertainment centres and prestigious residential buildings. Its
speed of IU recognition is among the fastest in the industry (0.125sec).
Examples include:
-
SAFRA clubs (4 separate sites, 200 000 club members, 30 000 drivers)
- SAFRA Mount Faber (1 In - 1 Out with 2 Antenna)

Electronic Parking System
Complimentary and Redemption Parking
AlphaWAVE provides highly customizable and flexible
complimentary parking solutions. Complimentary parking can be totally free or
discounted. This depends on the application. For example, a shopping centre
trying to attract more shoppers to its establishment may introduce a $2
discount to the parking fee of any shopper who accumulates a total spending of
$20 at its shops. A hotel may like to issue a complementary card that allows
its customers to have free parking as long as he stays with the hotel. Some
complimentary cards or tickets may be reused for a certain number of times,
while others are "swallowed" by the machine on one use.
AlphaWAVE develops a full range of complimentary solutions from prestigious
looking full colour plastic magnetic cards to barcode paper tickers, together
with self-service validation kiosk customized to suit individual client's
unique business processes.
Licence Plate Recognition System
AlphaWAVE develops a highly reliable LPR
(License Plate Recognition) System with research grants from the EDB
(Economic Development Board of Singapore) jointly with an Israel
company. The recognition engine has been used in many licence plate
recognition or container identification recognition applications around
the world.
This system achieves very near 100%
recognition success rate for Singapore licence plate under controlled
indoor environment such as underground carpark.
The advantage of the LPR System is that
the licence plate number is more useful and familiar with users who
wanted to register vehicles for guests and for security to trace
vehicles when required.
The system can take several snap-shots of
the vehicles and store them in its database together with other
information. The is especially useful in visitor registration system.
Examples include:
-
Singapore Land Tower
-
Telecom Centre

Proximity Transponder System
The Proximity Transponder System is a low
cost alternative to the EPS for managing Season Parkers. The system uses
a reader or antenna to read the identification number of a transponder,
which is normally placed on the windscreen of a vehicle. Upon
successful identification, vehicles with valid transponder will be
allowed access.
AlphaWAVE Proximity Transponder System is
used in condominiums, office buildings, factories, schools and clubs.
The effective range of the reader is 3 metres from the transponder. The
reading speed is fast enough to allow drivers to simple drive through
without having to stop or wind down the window.
